Muna is 20 year old. Originally from Anbar province, like thousands of others from the region, her family fled to Kurdistan in 2014 when ISIS took over the region. She now lives in Erbil with her parents and four siblings. Still, due to soaring costs of rent in Erbil available to IDPs, the family share their house with another 2 families, totalling 17 people under one roof.
One of Muna’s brothers works in a farm, but this accrues only a small wage. Her other brother cannot work as he is awaiting surgery on both his eyes to relieve a chronic condition which obscures his sight. Meanwhile, Muna is bedridden and has been since 2017. Following a bad fall, Muna broke her hip and was unable to undergo surgery. She is now immobile as seen in the picture above. Doctors estimate that hip surgery will cost around 6000$. In the meantime, while trying to come up with the funds to go ahead with the surgery, we are helping the family bring her diabetes under control.
So please, if you would like to get us a step closer to raising the funds for Muna’s surgery which could allow her to move and be independent once again, donate below and share this with your friends and family!
